The passionate heart of Shincheonji’s youth to save lives through blood donation campaigns

'We Are One', the youth volunteer group from Shincheonji Church of Jesus, is one of the largest youth organisations in the world with 90,000 domestic and foreign youth members (70,000 in South Korea and 20,000 overseas) across 12 branches in South Korea and 75 countries including the US and UK. 

Due to receiving the blood of Jesus, “We are One” are passionately participating in regular blood donations in order to save lives too.

The regular blood donation drives began to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation in order to overcome the blood shortage caused by COVID-19. According to the Global Status Report on Blood Safety and Availability published by the WHO in June 2022, shortages of blood have impacted all countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, in January 2022, the American Red Cross announced that the US is facing a national blood crisis – its worst blood shortage in over a decade.

A total of 73,807 from the “We Are One” youth group donated blood for 85 days in 2022 to overcome the blood supply shortage in South Korea.  A total of 100,360 people participated in the blood donation campaign, which is the largest group blood donation ever.

-The most blood donations made in the shortest period by a single organisation
-The largest number of blood donation certificates produced to a single organisation

-Highest number of blood donor applicants in 24, hours 

(71, 121 which is 7 times larger than the previous world record!)

Jun-su Hong, Head of We Are One, said, “Like the name of the group, the group was launched with the purpose that young people around the world can do everything and lead the world when they come together as one. I started thinking that the most valuable service we could do is to donate blood to save lives. We will not end with this Live ON Youth ON campaign, but we will continue to help and cooperate with the blood supply.”

We Are One will promote the life-sharing campaign '2023 Life ON Youth ON' until October to resolve the blood supply shortage due to the decrease in blood donations during the July-August holiday season. Already after only one week, ~10,000 donations have been made!

Jun-soo Hong, Director of We Are One, said, 

“Donating blood is the only means of saving the lives of patients who are in need of blood transfusions and it is a valuable service.” “We Are One will continue to donate blood in the future to overcome the blood supply shortage and strengthen the community foundations.”

Mr Hong also says “I think that respecting diversity and breaking down boundaries to create a cultural space where everyone can engage in mutual dialogue and find enjoyment without discrimination is the kind of service that We Are One should pursue in the future. In light of the recent increasing threat of climate change, we are actively participating in environmental improvement activities. We are also conducting flood recovery services and plogging.”

In order to repay the grace of life they received from God and Jesus, the youth volunteer group shared that their goal is to practice the biblical values of truth, love, and peace. Shincheonji Church of Jesus will continue to embody the love of Jesus through volunteer campaigns such as blood donations and much more, shining light to the world.
